Following Available Light and Space

December 14, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - December 15, 2018 @ 5:00 pm

Following Available Light and Space

Curated by MFA Candidate Paper Buck, “Following Available Light and Space” features four artists—Paper Buck MFA ’20, Sam Horgan BFA ’21, Amelia De Neergaard and Andy Wellspring—who address the cultural myths and ecological legacies embedded in relationships to American forests. Through land management practices that are inseparable from broader histories of power, they have socially constructed an unstable ecological surround.

The exhibition title is derived from ecological descriptions of “forest succession”— the process through which new growth spreads into and transforms existing landscapes after natural disasters or climatic changes. In a forest, light and space are the basic building blocks of ecological futurity. Together, they are magnets for life, gatekeepers of potentiality.
