Holland Cotter’s fall arts preview for The New York Times, which largely focuses on exhibitions by immigrant citizens and younger artists, features an image of a self portrait by Professor Devan Shimoyama. His exhibition “Cry, Baby” at The Andy Warhol Museum is included among those by younger artists that the critic is most looking forward to seeing.

In an article for Artnet News chronicling the top museum exhibitions opening this fall outside of New York, Caroline Goldstein and Sarah Cascone select “Cry, Baby” as one of the most anticipated shows.

“[Devan Shimoyama’s] work includes photographs, paintings, and sculptures that challenge the gender norms of stereotypical institutions,” they write, “notably, he transforms the typically male barbershop into a glamorous, glitter-filled paradise.”
