Professor Silver Co-Curates Film Screenings at the Scottsdale Museum of Art

Fairy Fantastic!, the collaborative art practice of Professor Suzie Silver and Hilary Harp, presents two film screening at the Scottsdale Museum of Art. The first, “Out in the Woods: Queer Folk and Fairy Tales,” presents queer retellings of folk and fairy tales and will screen on May 3. The second, “Over the Rainbow: Queer and Experimental Shorts for Kids of All Ages,” presents shorts on difference-affirming, gender-variance, and anti-bullying themes and will screen on May 4.

Out in the Woods: Queer Folk and Fairy Tales
Friday May 3 at 7pm

Out in the Woods includes nine queer retellings of folk and fairy tales from around the world. These films include a storiy of love in a pre-hispanic Mexican ritual, a Cinderella-like folktale from Samoa, a Scottish tale of tricksters and transformation, and a magical realist take on Alice in Wonderland starring trans/queer luminaries Zackary Drucker, Flawless Sabrina and Vaginal Davis.

Over the Rainbow: Queer and Experimental Shorts for Kids of all Ages
Saturday May 4, Drag Queen Story Hour with Miss Nature at 12pm, Screening at 1pm

Enjoy a curated screening of short films for gender non-conforming kids, queer families, and their allies. Over the Rainbow presents eight short films on difference-affirming, gender-variance, and anti-bullying themes. The films in Over the Rainbow are moving, hilarious, beautiful, and inventive visions of a gender-creative world. As finely wrought as they are entertaining, the films in Over the Rainbow will delight kids and parents alike.
