Professor Johannes DeYoung exhibits new work at the 2020 B3 Biennial of the Moving Image in Frankfurt, Germany. DeYoung’s work, “Wandering Within the Sea of Fog,”” presents a poetic reflection on the effects of disinformation, experienced through the vernacular of pulp-noir. The work explores the pulp-fiction detective as a contemporary Rückenfigur — a lens to reveal underbellies of social and political upheaval, a vehicle to understand and express the anxieties of our contemporary moment.

The B3 Biennial 2020 will take place as a hybrid festival October 9-18, 2020, focusing on TRUTHS. The film screenings as well as the art, games, VR/XR and conference program will be streamed in full online. B3’s overall program includes around 100 entries by artists and media professionals from 23 countries in the fields of film, art, games and VR.
