Professors Susanne Slavick and Andrew Ellis Johnson have a two-person exhibition titled “Getting There” on view at the Stockton University Art Gallery in New Jersey, on view September 7 through November 14. There will be a webinar at noon on September 29 with a dialogue moderated by CMU alum and Stockton art faculty Jacob Feige.
Through paintings, video, prints and works on paper, Slavick and Johnson examine the contradictory fears and hypocrisies, ignored histories and punitive policies surrounding the challenge of migrants and refugees today. The works in “Getting There” question and expose the consequences of our resentment or fear of “the stranger.” “Getting There” is not just about the journey and reception of migrants; it is also about the movement of our own consciences.
