Zeja Z. Copes

Briefly describe your artistic practice.
Film and television are major inspirations for my work. I’m interested in how horror tropes can be used to navigate ideas around love, safety and belonging.

What are you currently working on?
Right now I’m making a graphic novel as my senior thesis project. It has two of my favorite things: werewolves and familial angst.

How has your artistic practice changed in the last year?
My figure sketches have gotten better because I’m living with my brother again and I can (politely!) force him to model for me. I also learned how to knit, and that keeps my hands active when I’m not in the mood to work.
