Jackson McKeehan MFA ’21 premieres his short film “Blue Diane” at the Midwest WeirdFest in Eau Claire, March 6-8. “Blue Diane” follows a rural woman, desperate to live a healthy life, as she responds to a classified ad for binge eating support. The call unleashes a physical manifestation of her eating disorder—a gay ghost dead-set on overtaking her mind and body.

MidWest WeirdFest was established to evoke the awe and chills of the sideshow alley of a dark carnival, a place filled with terrors, wonders, and forbidden surprises. The cinematic equivalent of a collection of pulp magazines and underground comics from Fate and True Detective, through Weird Tales and Amazing Stories, to Ripley’s Believe It or Not and Zap Comix. WeirdFest is a film festival that celebrates not only independent genre cinema—horror, sci-fi, fantasy, action, thriller—but one that welcomes all types of underground film, from experimental and avant-garde to offbeat documentaries.
